VENDOR OF THE MONTH
Chris Williams & Dr. Chris Stankovich, Sportsmen's 8/16/08

Chris Williams
Central Ohio BCA Coordinator
Submitted By: Jodie Moffett, Columbus, Ohio

It just seems like everyone knows Chris or he knows everyone. A little bit of both I'm sure. He is one of those guys that really cares about his players and bringing them opportunities to bump up their game. He's quite the jokester, the Tournament Coordinator, the equipment guy, and to many of us a good friend or teammate. Chances are, you have met him or will before the end of the year.

This past weekend is another fine example of Chris in action. He brought to us, Nationally-acclaimed Sport Psychologist, Dr. Chris Stankovich, Ph.D, P.C.C., author of Advanced Human Performance Systems  for FREE to the players of Central Ohio, regardless of what League you play. The live presentation was excellent and properly titled “Mind of Steel: Mental Toughness for Success in Billiards." Dr. Stanovich discussed the following:

  • How your peak performance physicially, technically and mentally impacted your game..
  • How personal positive re-enforcement can improve your confidence and your game...
  • How you can be "playing to win" vs. "playing to not lose"...
  • How to focus to find your "zone"...
  • How to calm down when the pressure is high through several techniques...
  • How important a Pre-Shot Routine is to a players focus, confidence and performance...
  • How fast you should rebound from a tough loss...

If you weren't there, you really missed out. This was an excellent 60 minute presentation. Chris has copies of the presentation handouts if you are interested.

Once again, thank you Chris for being an outstanding representative for the BCA and for thinking of all the Players in Central Ohio.

"Captain Jacks"
Submitted By: Jodie Moffett, Columbus, Ohio

I received a phone call from a friend of mine that was participating in a pool tournament at "Captain Jack's" in Newark, Ohio. She said you have to check this place out! They have a great turn out for their pool tournament on Friday evenings. So I told her I would have to check it out the following week.

I wasn't disappointed! Finding the place from Columbus, Ohio wasn't difficult at all. (70 East, Route 79 North into Heath, found on the right side of the street.) The sign was very easy to see and read from a distance. The exterior reminded me of an old boat dock bar with aluminum siding, hence the appropriate name of "Captain Jacks"!

This place was laid out very nice, allowing them to offer more than one event to occur at a time. They have five (5) BCA pool tables near the front of the bar with plenty of space to move around, not to mention they have a pool tournament that is very well attended and pays out 250% in addition to a Calcutta. That's music to the ears of pool players everywhere. I have never heard of a 250% payout!

They have a kitchen area and bar in the middle of the establishment (if anything, come check out all the funky bumperstickers they have plastering the bar walls, just when you think you have seen them all, you find another one that will keep you laughing!), then a large stage and dance floor, complete with dart boards near the back.

If that didn't impress you when you first walked in, they have an outdoor patio with a covered tent and seating area, where you can still hear the live band or DJ rocking your favorite tunes. The back parameter is still under construction but don't let that disrupt you having a great time at Captain Jacks. It seems they have a little of something for everyone, including big stage acts that require ticket purchases in advance, aka "Saving Jane".

You can find out more about Captain Jacks by visiting their myspace page at www.myspace.com/captain_jacks Hope to see you there sometime! It's worth the drive and make sure you tell them Jodie sent ya!

"HOUSE OF CUES"

My husband and I traveled to Cleveland, Ohio for our 1 year wedding anniversary and to see an Indians game. While touring, we found the greatest billiards hall called "House of Cues".

It's a hidden treasure that you really should check out. Friendly staff, great Mexican/Southwestern food, drinks and well maintained billiards tables and equipment. They even suggested other places and events that my husband and I could check out during our visit.

We will definitely be returning the next time we are in Cleveland, Ohio. To the "House of Cues" Owner and Wait Staff, thank you for a wonderful and memorable experience!
